William Kamkwamba – The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

This is an incredibly inspirational story about a young man from a small village in Africa who didn’t shatter any boundaries…he simply walked right through them.

At the age of 14, he figured out how to build a windmill, simply by looking at some photographs in a library book.

His family and the others in his village were skeptical—in fact, a lot of people thought he was nuts—but when his thoughtfully-engineered contraption built from bicycle and tractor parts brought electricity to their home for the first time, they were both convinced and astounded.

His idea of what he could accomplish wasn’t held back by thinking “I don’t have the money” or “Nobody’s ever done this before” or “What will people think?”

Instead it was more like: “Wow, what a cool idea! I’m going to do that!”

Watch this little video, and ask yourself…what would you do if you chose to ignore your so-called “limitations”?

You can read more about William’s story at his web site www.williamkamkwamba.com, and in his own memoir, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope, which he co-wrote with Bryan Mealer.

David Deida, on Giving Your Gift

“Feel what you want to give most as a gift, to your woman and to the world, and do what you can to give it today. Every moment waited is a moment wasted, and each wasted moment degrades your clarity of purpose.”

—David Deida, from The Way of the Superior Man

Welcome

Welcome to my blog…I’m seriously honored you’re here. I’m going to be sharing lots of my own thoughts on women, men, dating and relationships, and life in general…as well as things I’ve learned from my own mentors, teachers, and heroes. Your contribution is greatly appreciated, so feel free to comment on any post, or send suggestions, questions, or topics you’d like to hear about to info@theartofmanhood.com.

One of the consistent themes you’ll find on this site—indeed, it’s part of my philosophy of life—is that your life is your art.

It makes no difference whether you are a photographer, painter, or musician…or an accountant, construction worker, or CEO…if you are living your life from your deepest purpose, if you are giving freely of the gifts you alone have to offer the world, you can make your life a unique masterpiece.

And with regard to relationships…another running idea here is that, although you can learn plenty of “techniques”, becoming truly better with women means becoming a better man.

Your unique contribution, you living from your purpose—your mastery of the art of manhood—is not only what women need and want…but is, in fact, what the world needs.
